Love my subscription!

Really love my subscription, and getting to try new coffees each time. So far, I have thoroughly enjoyed most - and only abandoned one (Tanzania Ngila). Great value for the quality of the coffee and prompt delivery. Easy to amend frequency of delivery, and also possible to add in an extra bag of beans to my delivery for when we have guests staying.

Great coffee

Recently changed my coffee subscription to Glen Lyon as I had tried some of their coffees and wanted to support a local business. Very happy with my move. Great coffee and great service. Thanks

Consistently good

Consistently good coffee. Tends toward the light/fruity end but good variety. My only suggestion for improvement would be a 500g option. 250g doesn’t last the month, but 1kg every month is too much!

Hi Russell,

Thank you for your feedback! Our subscriptions are fully flexible which means you can choose the number of bags you receive and how often you would like to receive your coffee. If you are finding that 250g is too little and 1kg is too much for you a month, we have a few options that may be of interest to you - you can add another bag on to your current subscription so that you'll receive 2 x 250g bags of coffee (500g total) a month, change your current 4-weekly deliveries to receive coffee every 2 weeks instead, or swap your subscription to 1kg every 6 weeks.

You can make any changes via your account on our website, however if you require any support to do this please get in touch at info@glenlyoncoffee.co.uk and we would be happy to amend your subscription for you.

Thank you so much for your suggestion - I have taken note of this and I will speak to the team about whether we may be able to offer a 500g subscription option in the future.

Best wishes,
Lucy | Head of Online Dispatch

Flipping good coffee

Blown away by the subscription from Glen Lyon. We stumbled across the roasters while on holiday and the subscription allows us to continue to enjoy the coffee while supporting an excellent local employer.

I eagerly await each monthly delivery and haven’t been let down by any of the choices. Always good, always different, and always accompanied by info on the provider.

Consistently the best coffee that goes into my machine

Great subscription for variety.

Really enjoy the subscription, and trying new coffees each month. My only critique would be the option to choose processing method- there tends to be more naturally processed coffees, and I'm not a big natural process fan (the odd one may be nice, but there are quite a few).

Other than that, very happy

Hello Geoffrey,

Thank you for this feedback! I will get this recorded and speak to the team about whether we may be able to offer the option of choosing washed vs. natural (and all the other not-washed processes). The difficulty will be in whether our green coffee buyer thinks we can consistently have a nice single origin of each process available throughout the whole year. We're a very small roaster so this may be a challenge, but I will put it to the team and see what they think!

I will reach out to you directly if we are able to offer this in the future.

Best regards,
Nick

Lovely coffee with a flexible subscription

High quality, tasty coffee, ground to the right coarseness for my espresso machine. Glen Lyon staff were really helpful in getting this set up for me. You can change the subscription easily, and delay it by a week or 2 if you're not quite ready for the next batch. You get handy info cards with each single origin coffee too, telling you the best way to brew it. I always receive my order quickly too.

Glen Lyon Coffee

We absolutely love not only drinking the coffee that you carefully source; but learning about it too
We feel that by having a monthly subscription we are supporting hard working growers who would not otherwise be promoted on the wider world stage . Its 5 stars from us! Julia & John Chalmers, Fife

Not my cup of... coffee

Really disappointed with this month's coffee.(washed Nicaragua) It smells promising but I find it very acidic (it will curdle almond milk instantly!) and bland. Doubt I'll want to use the rest of the beans unfortunate 🫤

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed our Sugarcane Decaf but sorry to hear the Nicaragua Ojo De Agua is not to your taste. We use a roasting software to help keep our roasting profiles consistent and regularly cup (taste) our coffees following industry standards for quality control.

Whilst there is a citrusy note and natural acidity to the Ojo De Agua an overly acidic coffee can be a sign that the brew is under extracted. Depending on the brewing method you are using there are a few things you can adjust to increase the contact time between the water and the coffee grounds to bring out more of the sweetness and flavour of the beans. One thing you can try is grinding your beans a little finer. One of our barista team would be happy to get in touch with you and chat through things you can try with specific brewing methods. Please just let me know if that would be of interest to you?

In terms of the almond milk splitting - this can be a problem with non-dairy milks, particularly when adding cold milk to black coffee. A couple of things we have found that help a bit are; using a barista specific version of the milk (if you're not already) and heating the milk before adding it to the coffee.

Of course a lot of coffee tasting and the type of coffee preferred is down to personal preference so we hope that you find something in our range that suits the taste profile you prefer. If you have any questions about our coffees then please don't hesitate to ask.

Kind regards
Fran

First class

The single origin coffee has been absolutely wonderful. Coffee from around the world each with its own distinctive aroma and taste, they have all been wonderful. We are currently on the Andy Llands from Peru, intense and full of fruit tastes that linger on the palate, we throughly recommend. If you haven't got a subscription, then do get one, you won't be disappointed. Our coffee arrives without fail every 28 days, you are even notified when it's in the post. It's first class coffee from a very first class Glen Lyon. We live in Plymouth Devon and have never been disappointed by the service or the coffee.

Beautiful roast lovely beans

Really nice coffee, I don’t know I never bought before. Living in London we have some great roasters here but this one is on par if not better than most of them.

Absolutely Fantastic!

This gets you the best varietals of coffee from around the world and all roasted locally and ultra fresh.

The roasting of all the coffee beans are all done medium light in my experience but they all boast completely different flavour profiles, and beautiful balanced caffeine levels. The monthly subscription (1Kilo) costs less then 6 coffees at the shops now adays and affords me at least 60 cups of coffee.

Visited the roastery last year with the wife and baby and they were all lovely and very informative. Fantastic doesn't say well enough of this company, they honor the people and places the coffee comes from, they honor the processes and they different styles of brewing all equally.

Your subscription comes with a card on where the beans originated, their relative elevation, and a bit of the background on the farm or farms involved. It also comes with their suggested optimal brewing method.

Again try it for a month and I doubt you'll ever go back to that headache inducing, dehydrating, tar tasting instant coffee ever again, then again.. you might not be here at all reading this comment if that's already your vibe. No judgement on if you drink instant as in all food and drink there is the cheaper stuff by choice, finances, habit, culture or otherwise, but do your body a favour and try a coffee brewed with a lot of love and care put into it. Not a coffee just roasted to hades with no balance of caffeine to polyphenols content that gives you the shakes.

Good coffee instant or otherwise should make you feel more in the moment with whatever surrounds you, it should fill you with energy not dread, and should carry you forward on your journeys, and this coffee is just that!

Great option if you like a bit of variety

I tend to get a bit sick of drinking the same coffee, so this subscription suits me. I go through a 250g bag of beans per week, so getting 2 bags every 2 weeks is perfect. I'm very happy to support Glen Lyon as a company and have never had a single problem.

One of life’s essential treats!!

I’ve been a customer of Glen Lyon for around 5 years, and a single origin subscriber for the last couple of years, and it has become one of life's essential pleasures!
I had no idea that there’s so much variety in flavour profiles until subscribing, and it’s a great way to experience such a wide variety of coffees. The coffee is always first class, with great service, and all while supporting an independent local business, and the growers Glen Lyon source from. What’s not to like!!

Loved the flavour of the coffee - but the grind was too coarse for aeropress and looked more like French Press. Which worked out alright, as I also have a French press. But will try a finer grind next time to use with my Aeropress

Hello Leyla,

Sorry that our Aeropress grind didn't meet your expectations! It's really difficult to match what people expect in terms of grind because everyone has slightly (or wildly) different recipes.

I recently did a big test of all of our grind settings and have updated them to how we brew in the roastery. Aeropress (if you use the upside-down brew method) and french press are both immersion brews so (technically) you can use almost any grind setting and then just vary your brew time to adjust the strength (total dissolved solids or TDS) in the cup. Increasing your regular brew time might help this bag of coffee be more up to your expectations.

If you order again feel free to select our moka pot grind (5 on our EK43 grinder rather than 7 for Aeropress) or just leave us a note in the cart/checkout that you'd like it slightly finer than our normal Aeropress grind. Our team are always good about watching out for notes.

If it helps, the recipe that I've decided on for the team is the following for a standard size Aeropress: 15g ground coffee, 240g total water (94C if you want to get into the nitty gritty), 1:16 ratio, 40g bloom for 45 sec, then fill to 240g and leave for 1:45 (don't stir, this can end immersion brewing for some weird reason), then add your filter, flip, and press. Try to finish pressing by about 2:15.

I do personally prefer a lighter brew from Aeropress so that we showcase more of the coffee's brighter notes, but that is just personal/team preference!

Anyway, please reach out to our team at info@glenlyoncoffee.co.uk if you have any questions or further issues.

Happy brewing,
Nick | Head of Front of House

Great coffee, great service

This is our first subscription after ordering from Glen Lyon for a few years. The coffee is excellent as we expected, enjoying different beans each month, but I’m really impressed with how easy it is to amend or skip a month.

holy cow, yum!

worth the money - so delcious!! Flavours totally aligned with the tasting notes too. I had this first in a moca pot over a camping stove and what a beautiful setting to be blown away by. Thanks Glen Lyon! Love all of the social justice / community supportive work that the company engages with as well.
