As a result of East Timor’s remote locations and small scale of the farms, synthetic fertilisers and pesticides are rarely used. Most farmers rely on natural methods that have been passed down through generations, with much of the coffee thus being grown organically even without official certification.

Coffee has been grown here since Portuguese colonisation in the 19th century, and the island’s native Hybrido de Timor variety has influenced coffee breeding worldwide. This deep & complex heritage is another part of what makes these coffees so unique.

You’ll often find herbal, spicy, and cocoa notes in East Timor coffee, complemented by subtle dark fruits and a smooth body. These flavours reflect the island’s rugged character and its traditional processing methods.

This is subjective, and ultimately down to your own personal preferences. To our mind the filter and cafetière highlight the warmth and complexity of the cup, but it also produces a mellow, earthy espresso for those who prefer a more robust coffee experience.
