As the nights draw in this autumn the skill of being able to confidently navigate in the hills becomes all the more important in the Scottish Highlands and despite our ever increasing dependency on digital devices there is still no substitute for a good old-fashioned map and compass. Join qualified Mountain Leader Jamie Grant on a navigation journey in the high ground of Glen Lyon to learn the essentials to finding your way around in all weather conditions when batteries fail or there is no mobile coverage to fall back on. Jamie will cover everything from basic map reading techniques to timing, pacing, grid references and more advanced orientation skills such as attack points, aiming off and relocation techniques such as aspect of slope.
Jamie is a qualified mountain leader and long-time resident of Glen Lyon. He is also the Director and co-owner of Glen Lyon Coffee Roasters.
“My son Euan and I spent a great day with Jamie learning navigation skills in the beautiful surroundings of Glen Lyon. Jamie’s welcoming and easy manner, as well as his knowledge and passion for the subject and area, made for a really enjoyable day of learning. We both feel better equipped to stay safe in the hills. A day well spent!”
