Get into the summer groove with our latest single origin offering: this bright and clean washed coffee from the highlands of northern Nicaragua. The largest country in Central America, Nicaragua is known as ‘The Land of Lakes and Volcanoes’—in fact, it boasts more than 25 volcanoes (eight of which are active!) and 14 crater lakes. The department of Nueva Segovia lies on Nicaragua’s northern border with Honduras. This mountainous region produces some of the country’s best coffee, including that produced by Katherin Herrera on her farm Ojo De Agua. Our latest sweet, peachy microlot is from Andy Llanos Delgado is a great example of why we love coffees from Peru.   Andy Llanos is a young second generation farmer from the small district of Colasay in Jaén, Cajamarca, in the mountains of the Cordillera Occidental. Once a mechanic in the coastal city of Chiclayo, Andy moved home in 2016 to take over the family farm when his father’s health deteriorated.   After renovating and replanting the farm, which sits at 1,800 metres above sea level, Andy split the land up between his siblings. It’s always a good time when the new harvest from Ethiopia arrives into the roastery. This new coffee from the Bochesa washing station in Sidama is a floral and peachy delight, and we can’t wait for you to try it.   The Bochesa washing station is located in the Sidama region of southern Ethiopia, and is named after the local kebele (the country’s smallest administrative division). Sidama is home to four and a half million people, the majority of whom are the Sidama people, an ethnic group who traditionally inhabited the area. Like many of Ethiopia’s ethnic groups, the Sidama people have their own unique language, traditions, and cultural practices. Oh Colombia, we’re so glad to have you back in the roastery. This fresh season coffee (also May’s single origin subscription) is a beautifully clean and sweet community lot from a group of smallholder farmers in Tolima in the Colombian Andes. Although not as prolific or famous as some of its neighbouring regions, Tolima stands out for a number of reasons. First, it is relatively new to coffee production: until very recently, the department was controlled by members of Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or FARC, a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla group that for decades fought a bloody insurgency against the Colombian government. During this period farmers in Tolima mainly grew coca, or weren’t able to farm at all, but since the ceasefire started in 2016 many have begun to grow coffee...

But what exactly is Gesha and why is it often also spelled “Geisha” with an i? The Gesha coffee varietal has captivated drinkers and coffee professionals around the world since it burst onto the scene in 2004 when a farm called Hacienda La Esmeralda won the Best of Panama competition using the then-little-known variety. Our new True North (and April’s subscription coffee) is particularly special as we purchased it direct through the Huadquiña Cooperative on the slopes of Machu Picchu during our recent trip to Peru. Coffee from Savage Mountain Don Armando Ramírez Sánchez is an organic coffee producer whose farm, Finca Miscabamba, is located in the mountains of Cusco. He grows coffee at altitudes of up to 2,350 metres above sea level in the Salkantay river basin in the Peruvian Andes, not far from Machu Picchu. Salkantay is the highest and most important mountain in the Cordillera Vilcabamba. A hiking trail on the mountain has been named among the 25 best treks in the world, but it is not for the faint of heart: Salkantay is often translated from Quechua as “Savage Mountain”. When...

Bring on Bolivia!

Another year, another delivery of this very special coffee from the famous coffee producing Mamani family of Bolivia’s remote Uchumachi community high in the Bolivian Yungas. The Yungas is a hugely biodiverse ecoregion that stretches along the eastern slope of the Andes mountain range from Peru to Bolivia and into Argentina. In Bolivia, the region ranges from 400 up to 3,500 metres and is made up of a combination of tropical rainforest and cloud forests. Northern trade winds deposit fog and rain across the high mountains and provide a suitably warm, humid environment for growing coffee.
