How to keep the GL team warm when you can only serve coffee outside in the Highlands in January 🔥
It’s a glorious crisp minus 3 morning here in Aberfeldy and Lock Up Coffee is on!
As always the line up is pretty darn special with @ballintaggart brownies, @breadalbanebakeryaberfeldy cinnamon buns and #thehighlandchocolatier hot chocolate. Our Red Stag is tasting phenomenal on espresso and we have a delicious Peru on batch from Enrique Vasquez Zamora.

It’s not often we get quite so enthusiastic over

It’s not often we get quite so enthusiastic over something as simple as a coffee filter. But these reusable organic cotton and hemp cloth filters from the amazing @theclothfilterco tick all our boxes and then some.

If, like us, you drink a fair bit of filter coffee a day you are probably getting through no small amount of paper filters. Apart from the expense of endlessly buying single use filters there’s also the carbon impact of manufacturing and transport issues to consider here.

Cloth filters are a perfect middle ground between paper and metal. The holes in the cloth are slightly larger than a paper filter allowing more oils (and ultimately body and flavour) to get through but small enough to stop the sediment that often gets through with a metal filter. We’ve been road testing them at home for a while now and love how they brew. We also love how they help keep us on track with our commitment to zero waste and the fact that they are made by Matt and his sewing machine in the Peak District.

We have their chemex, kalita, V60 and aeropress cloth filters all available via our shop (link in bio) and check out @theclothfilterco for the best way to clean and care for them (top tip never put them in your washing machine unless you want notes of laundry detergent in your cup)

Hey Aberfeldy, so the latest @scotgov rulings mean that we can still do delicious take out coffee 🕺🕺🕺but it has to be served outside only 🥶

You’re a hardy bunch of souls up here so we know a little snow and subzero temperatures hopefully won’t put you off so grab your thermals and please keep coming along to our roastery on Fridays and Saturdays for your friendly neighbourhood caffeine fix.

We will have our espresso machine set up outside on our deck for take away coffees, pastries, @ballintaggart brownies, super creamy hot chocolates and a brief moment of socially distanced human interaction.

We appreciate how something as simple as a freshly roasted, nicely crafted flat white can help us all feel a little more human in these pandemic times and want to reassure you that we are here for our community. We are also incredibly grateful for your support. Quite frankly with wholesale all but shutdown it’s about the only thing helping us keep the lights on right now.

Ps. The latest ruling takes force as of Saturday so this Friday you are allowed to come inside for take away (face coverings and social distancing as per usual). We even promise to have the wood burner lit 🔥 oh joy!

We’ve been drinking our new Colombian Finca Las Mercedes. An old friend that we first had in our roastery many years ago and who have produced an extra sweet and juicy ‘Mitaca’ (fly crop) this year.
